Eric Dane’s Last Words to His Daughters
At the conclusion of the interview Falchuk stepped aside allowing Dane to speak directly to the camera delivering his final message to his daughters. His heartfelt words were as follows:
“Billie and Georgia these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes but I tried. Overall we had a blast didn’t we I remember all the times we spent at the beach the two of you me and mom in Santa Monica Hawaii Mexico. I see you now playing in the ocean my water babies. Those days were heaven. I want to share four lessons from this disease I hope you hear them not just listen to them.
“First live now. Right now. Focus on the present. For years I wandered mentally trapped in self-pity shame doubt replaying decisions second-guessing myself. Out of survival ALS forced me to stay present and I have learned to treasure each moment. The past holds regrets and the future is unknown so embrace the present fully.
“Second fall in love. Not only with a person but with something meaningful. Find your passion your joy the thing that excites you to get up in the morning. I fell in love with acting at your age and it carried me through my darkest days. My work excites me and inspires me every day. Find what excites you and pursue it fully.
“Third choose your friends carefully. Seek people who uplift and love you without conditions. I am grateful for my close friends and family who support me even as my body fails me. They come to share meals watch games listen to music just by showing up they give so much. Love your friends deeply and hold onto them.
“Finally fight with all your strength and dignity. Face challenges health or otherwise head on. ALS takes my body but never my spirit. You girls inherited resilience from me my superpower. Life will knock you down but stand back up repeatedly face hardships with honesty integrity and grace. Never give up.
“Billie and Georgia you are my heart my everything. Good night I love you. Those are my last words.”
